“What about second breakfast?” – Lord of the Rings

Well we’ve been in the UK for 6 days and it’s been moments of go-go-go and moments of doing nothing while we wait for classes to start and just enjoy the time in this beautiful country. And when we’re waiting around doing nothing, we are also usually eating food. This is not a great combination and let’s just say it’ll be good once classes start.

Thankfully, God has answered so many prayers since we’ve arrived. We are a little more settled and now have phone numbers AND we found an apartment to move into. We aren’t able to move in until the 21st, but God provided so well with this apartment that it’s worth the wait. It’s not only a very short commute to classes for Josh, but it’s also fully furnished and the perfect price. There are a few pictures on the photos page of it. We’ll have more photos once we are settled in as well. If you are interested in our new numbers and/or address just message us on facebook or whatsapp.

We’ve visited the school a couple times now and it’s seems like everything is taken care of for Josh’s classes. He goes for a Welcome Meeting for all students tomorrow and Registration is on Wednesday. I think I’m more excited for him to finally meet his classmates and make friends than he is, but hopefully he will at least enjoy himself.

I’ve been busy working with temp agencies and applying for jobs, so prayers for that would still be appreciated. As we tour the area we are going to be living in more and more I fall in love with it and can’t wait to be in the heart of it working.

Now, getting back to the food! We’ve enjoyed grocery shopping and learning about the different foods and not-so different foods. For those of you that don’t know, there is ALDI over here and that’s where we’ve done most of our grocery shopping so far. When we move we will most likely being doing more of it at Morrison’s, another reasonable chain, which just so happens to be a 1/2 block from our house! Some of our finds have been waffles that aren’t frozen, they are delicious in the toaster with peanut butter. Josh has already stated that we need to find a way to get them in the US when we return. We also enjoyed the farmer’s market Saturday morning. We got fresh sourdough bread, some very smelly Munster cheese, and plums and apples. We then also proceeded to purchase some delicious hot chocolate and crepes (because we didn’t have enough food) from a lovely little cafe.

Another restaurant we enjoyed earlier in the week was The Bohemia. We are currently located a lot closer to London than we will be when we move, so we’re enjoying the local restaurants since we probably won’t be back to this area much.

Downtown St. Albans (where we will be living) is a wonderful area and we are excited to be living there. This morning we tried out a local church and afterwards enjoyed some of the local sites. We climbed up a very narrow 98 steps to the top of clock tower and got to see some beautiful views of our lovely little town (on the photos page). And again, we had to try some food, so we enjoyed a chocolate shake from The Shaken Cow, which tasted exactly like drinking a Cadbury egg.

As stated previously, this next week holds some more events for Josh on campus, some more job hunting for me and the end of our rental. We are still deciding whether to continue the rental for another week before we move or try somewhere else. If Josh’s classes start the time we expect them to, then we might be able to enjoy a week exploring some other areas of the UK or Europe.

If you can find a Sainsbury, try it. Loved that grocery store. Make sure you take advantage of having fresh flowers at your home. They are sold by kiosks on the high streets and when I was there were so inexpensive which makes it easy to keep them in your home. I look forward to living vicariously thru you as I loved my experience of living in another country. Take one day trips over the weekends by train. So easy to get around. If you want a list of must sees, let me know.
